Northern Hills Training Center has been providing services and support to people with developmental disabilities for 33 years. As a result of this experience we have some of the best team members in the business today. All Direct Support Professionals (DSP's) must be 18 years of age, have a high school diploma, or equivalent, have a valid driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and must pass a background investigation.

Skilled Direct Support Professionals are paramount to delivering high quality services. DSP's must be able to:

  • Explore options and resources for helping individuals reach their desired goals.
  • Provide services using a person-centered approach.
  • Work cooperatively as a member of a service team.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and supportive atmosphere.
  • Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Use a computer to complete daily work-related documentation.

In addition to these skills other responsibilities of the Direct Support Professional include:Staff Member and Person Supported

  • Assisting people to access community resources such as medical appointments, shopping, and recreational activities.
  • Assisting people with personal care such as bathing, toileting, hygiene, and dressing.
  • Supporting people with financial decisions such as budgeting and banking.
  • Carrying out and documenting skill training and implementation of behavioral programs.
  • Safely administering and documenting medication distribution once med training is complete. 
  • Safely performing all prescribed medical procedures and following dietary guidelines.
  • Assisting people with basic household skills and chores.
